When I first went to acting school as a 17 year old, there was one scene study teacher that was very abusive, not only to me, but the whole class!! He threw a pen at me!! But, there was no way we could get out of that class because it was part of the curriculum...

When I first started taking classes at a specific accredited school in chicago .. I felt like the instructor didn’t allow me the sufficient time to be taught . I felt belittled because I was in a class with others that were way more experienced than I . And I didn’t feel I was given the time or the full attention . I completed the class but didn’t feel like I truly learned or grew from the experience . I felt small in the class .

Yes, I am allergic to any “abusive” acting classss. Doesn’t work for me at all. I do so much better with a nurturing environment.

I took a Zoom scene study class with a teacher from LA who turned out to be, for me, abusive. I was shamed in front of the class for speaking my opinions. Lambasted, really, in front of 30 people. When I had to do my scene my concentration was totally blown. I felt traumatized. I left the class but the trauma stayed with me for a while afterwards. Now I value kindness over any other quality in a teacher. Thx for opening the discussion about this.
